Topic: Self-organization of stem cell based tissue fibers in 3D printed cardiac tissue
Jeroen Rouwkema is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomechanical Engineering at the University of Twente. He received his PhD from the University of Twente in 2007 under the supervision of Clemens van Blitterswijk. He has further worked at MIT in the group of Robert Langer and at Harvard Medical School in the group of Ali Khademhosseini. His current research interests are vascularization and cardiac tissue engineering, and the development of bioengineering tools such as 3D embedded bioprinting to locally tune the engineered tissue environment. Jeroen has received a VENI fellowship from NWO, as well as an International Outgoing Fellowship, which is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions of the European Commission. In 2017 he received a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator grant and in 2019 and 2022 an ERC Proof of Concept grant. In 2017 he received the TERMIS EU Robert Brown Early Career Principal Investigator Award to recognize his contributions to the field of vascularized tissue engineering.
